“To share is to care,” said Shakespeare. Well, he actually didn’t say that, but we’re sure he would’ve agreed with this statement if he had lived in this day and age. During the last six months of 2014, some 2.6 billion shares were studied for this infographic, and more than 8 of 10 of all social media shares take place on Facebook. Sharing content on a social network can mean one of two things: (1) the receptor really loved it and wants their friends to be in the know or (2) they really hated it and want to express it to the world. Brands strive for having the former option where positive content is shared across the Social Media world. The reason is that every ‘Share’ not only reaffirms the brand that they know who their target audience is, but helps them reach new followers. We came up with a very simple hypothesis: if the content is done right, then people will want to share it and it may become viral. So the next time you’re about to post an interesting article on your website or Facebook page, think about that hypothesis for a minute, and adapt your content accordingly.
